April 24, 2009- Odor Investgation

April 24, 2009- At 17:42 stations 1 & 2 were dispatched to 1618 Route 61 (Tiger’s Den Gas Station) for an odor of “something burning”. Engine 732 and Ladder 725 went responding, and the crew from the ladder went to the roof to check the a/c unit while the crew from the engine checked out the inside. After a brief investigation it was found that it was a burnt up light ballast. They were advised to shut off the power to the light until an electrician could be notified. Time out was 20 minutes

April 23, 2009- Gas Leak

April 23, 2009- At 08:08 all 3 Schuylkill Haven stations along with District 41 (Cressona) were dispatched to 1544 Route 61 (Cressona Mall) for a possible gas leak. On Duty Chief 722 (Sattizahn) along with Chief 41-05 arrived on scene and had incoming Engine 732 and Rescue 727 canvas the area with gas monitors. After a brief investigation it was found to be sewer gas coming up from an old pipe. All units were cleared in just over a half hour.

April 22, 2009- Unknown type fire

April 22, 2009- At 10:34 the SHFD was dispatched to 258 West Adamsdale Road, North Manheim Twp, for an unknown type fire. Chief 720 was quickly to respond and was advised by county of a shed fire endangering another structure. However, as units arrived on scene they found what was left of a shed smolering and just about out. Chief 720 held Engine 737 and Engine 732 and cancelled off all additional units prior to responding. Time out was 40 minutes.

April 21, 2009- Natural gas Leak at”The Manheim”

April 21, 2009- At 14:16 all 3 Schuylkill Haven stations, as well as Station 10 from Pottsville City, Cressona and Mount Carbon Fire Police were dispatched to 1614 Route 61 (Manheim Restaurant) for a natural gas leak. As apparatus went responding, County Comm. Center advised of a constructing worker hitting the line while digging. Chief 723 arrived on scene and asked for station 10 out of the city for their air monitoring as well as Mount Carbon and Cressona fire police to shut down Route 61. The leak was quickly contained, and on scene personnel checked the area for elevated amounts of gas, and were placed available in just over an hour.

April 19, 2009- Brush fire in Cressona

April 19, 2009- At 17:00 the Liberty Fire Company was dispatched under the request of Chief 41-05 to assist Cressona Fire on a brush fire at Ash Street and Morningside Drive. Station 4 was dispatched for Tanker 738, and once the tanker arrived on scene they fed Engine 41-17 who were feeding the fire. The crew from the tanker assisted with raking and putting water on the fire and were cleared back to the boro within 45 minutes.

April 17, 2009- Medical Assist

April 17, 2009- At 20:04 the Rainbow Hose was dispatched to assist Medic 63-01 at 319 Center Ave, Schuylkill Haven Boro, for a medical assist. Squad 726 and Rescue 727 went responding and assisted medics with lifting and transporting the patient. Time out was 25 minutes.

April 17, 2009- R.I.T. goes to Pottsville City

April 17, 2009- At 12:56 the Schuylkill Haven RIT was sent to 307 West Market Street, Pottsville City, to assist Pottsville Fire on a working apartment building fire. Engine 737 and Squad 739 with 9 personnel repsonded to the scene. After both rigs arrived on scene, the fire was marked under control by Pottsville command and all Schuylkill Haven RIT members were released back to the boro. Total time out was 25 minutes.

April 15, 2009- Possbile House Fire on Pleasant Row

April 15, 2009- At 22:34 the SHFD was dispatched to 17 Pleasant Row, Schuylkill Haven Boro, for a possible house fire. On Duty Chief 720 (Peel) went responding and was advised by county of a heavy smoke condition in the area. As all incoming were rolling in and investigated, it was found to be a wood burner stove malfunction, and the smoke was blowing over the top of the above address prompting neighbors to call the Comm. Center. After a brief investigation, Chief Peel cleared himself and all units witin 20 minutes.

April 15, 2009- Vehicle Leaking Fluids

April 15, 2009- At 13:08 all 3 Schuylkill Haven stations were dispatched to 1628 Route 61, (Tiger’s Den) for a vehicle leaking fluids. While units were en route, they were advised of a gasoline truck with a possible rupture to one of it’s saddle tanks. Duty Chief 723 (Donatti) arrived on scene and confirmed the leak coming from the tank and placed himself in command. On scene personnel quickly plugged the hole in the tank and began containing the diesel fuel that was already leaked out. Apparatus on scene used floor dry, booms, and pads to contain the leak, as well as a PENNDOT sand truck to contain the spill which stretched from Schuylkill Haven to Cressona. The Schuylkill Haven Fire Department was busy for the better part of 2 hours.

April 13, 2009- AFA on East Union Street

April 13, 2009- At 10:15 all 3 stations were dispatched to 825 East Union Street, Schuylkill Haven Boro, for an automatic fire alarm. Chief 720 arrived on scene and determined it to be a false activation and cancelled all incoming apparatus. Time out 5 minutes.
