December 22, 2011- In Remembrance of Chief 34-05

The Schuylkill Haven Fire Department and all of its members are deeply saddened by the passing of Summit Station Fire Chief Will Heffner. Will served the borough of Schuylkill Haven for many years before becoming the Chief of Summit Station Fire Company. Our thoughts and prayers are with Will and his family during this difficult time. Please keep him, his family, and friends in your prayers during their time of need.

A celebration of life funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home Inc., 25 E. Main St., Schuylkill Haven. Friends are invited to call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. For those attending the evening viewing, parking will be available at the Schuylkill Haven High School. A bus will shuttle from the school parking lot to the funeral home. Friends are also invited to call from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Tuesday at the funeral home.

 

February 1, 2012 – Working Garage Fire (Auburn Borough)

February 1, 2012 – At 23:48 Stations 1 & 4 were dispatched to 434 Market Street, Auburn for a garage fire. As units became enroute SCCC advised of a working garage fire to the rear of the residence. Crews from E-737 staged their manpower at the corner of Market Street and 4th Streets, while T-738 established a water supply for E-47-10 (Landingville) to the rear of the garage. All units were on scene for approximately 30 minutes until being released by Auburn Command 39-01.

February 1, 2012 – MVA w/Injuries (Boggs Market)

February 1, 2012 – At 15:52 Station 1 was dispatched for Rescue 726 to respond to 250 Chestnut Street, Cressona for a vehicle accident with injuries. As the rescue was in enroute – SCCC advised of no injuries or fluids down and cancelled the response.

January 31, 2012 – Commercial Fire (Fromm Electric)

January 31, 2012 -At 02:12 Stations 1 & 4 were dispatched to 202 Pottsville Street, North Manheim Township assisting Fire District 41 (Cressona) with a possible commercial fire. Crews quickly arrived on scene and found the source of the fire to be a malfunctioning water heater inside of a storage area. Fire personnel disconnected the power to the heater and checked for extension. All units were then placed available by Cressona Command.

January 28, 2012 – Landing Zone (Church By PSU)

January 28, 2012 – At 14:55 the SHFD was dispatched to 110A Route 61 (the Church by PSU) to setup a landing zone for incoming Medevac 7. Crews established a secure area for the “bird” to land and assisted the flight crew with patient transport to the helicopter. Chief 730 (Reed) had command.

January 22, 2012 – AFA Rest Haven Nursing Home

January 22, 2012 – At 16:22 the SHFD was dispatched to 401 University Drive, North Manheim Twp. for an automatic fire alarm. Chief 720 arrived on location and advised all incoming units of burnt popcorn. All SHFD units were then placed available.

January 19, 2012 – Working Structure Fire (Pioneer Pole Buildings)

January 19, 2012 – At 13:00 Station 4 was dispatched for E-737 and T-738 to 716 S. Route 183, Wayne Township for a working fire. As units became enroute, SCCC advised of a working building fire. E-737 arrived on scene and immediately established a fill site between two large ponds to supply water to the scene. Fire personnel from both E-737 and T-738 also assisted at the scene with fire attack and overhaul of the structure. All Station 4 units were on scene for approximately 2.5 hours. January 19, 2012 – Possible Structure Fire (May Ann Apartments)

January 19, 2012 – At 01:40 Stations 2 & 4 were dispatched to 1 May Ann Hill for a possible structure fire. As all units began to respond SCCC advised of a possible electrical fire located inside the residence. Crews arrived on scene and found that the homeowner was having difficulties with an electrical panel. Chief 720 advised the homeowner to contact an electrician. All SHFD units were then placed available.

January 18, 2012 – MVA w/Injuries (Parkway Avenue)

January 18, 2012 - At 09:44 the SHFD was dispatched to the intersection of Parkway Avenue and Columbia Street for a vehicle accident with injuries. Chief 720 quickly arrived on scene and found a two car accident with injuries. Crews assisted EMS with patient care and assisted with traffic control until the tow company arrived. Chief 720 (Peel) had command.

January 18, 2012 – AFA Holy Family Nursing Home

January 18, 2012 -At 01:31 Stations 1 & 4 were dispatched along with Fire Districts, 56, 42 and 47 to 900 W. Market Street, Orwigsburg for an automatic fire alarm. Chief 56-02 advised all incoming units of a smoke condition on the third floor and requested an additional engine from Station 2. Crews used TICs (Thermal Imagery Cameras) to locate a problem with a ventilation motor. Power to the motor was cut and all units were placed available by Orwigsburg command.

January 15, 2012 – Smoke In A Structure (Penn State Schuylkill)

January 15, 2012 -At 00:02 the SHFD was dispatched to 312 University Drive(Penn State Schuylkill Apartments) for smoke inside a structure. Chief 723 (Donatti) arrived on scene and found the source of the smoke to be burnt food. All units were then placed available.
